In my former role of wireless uber-geek for PalmSource, I had accounts with literally every phone carrier.

And time after time, T-Mobile has convinced me that they are the best.

They have GREAT customer service. And cheap unlimited data plans. And the best international roaming rates. And so on...

Just this afternoon I spent 30 minutes on the phone with Cingular trying to arrange for a former co-worker to take over one of my now un-needed accounts still under contract. The same process with T-Mobile was trivially easy, and was accomplished with a 5 minute call.

And I called T-Mobile up today to talk about switching to a cheaper plan, and they were actually INFORMED and HELPFUL and quick and genuinely friendly.

Wow.

Yeah, their coverage may not be the best. But it is good enough - and the good customer service more than makes up for it in the end. I have tried the rest, and now that I am back down to a single wireless phone number, T-Mobile still wins for me.

I need to come up with some sort of "Seal of Approval" that they can use in their advertising, huh?

So I recently had to figure out our phone service for the new place, and I decided I wanted to try one of the snazzy new VOIP companies that use an Internet connection for the phone line.

I settled on SunRocket.com.

Not only do they have an amazing price of just $199/year for UNLIMITED local and long distance phone usage, that price also includes 100 minutes a month of international calls, two incoming phone numbers, voice mail that can be listened to over the web from anywhere, and more.

Their pricing is pretty unique in the phone world. They call it "bottom line" pricing, and that means that all taxes fees and surcharges that other companies tack on to the advertised price are included in both the monthly and yearly prices from SunRocket. Very classy. I wish more companies did this.

But what really blew me away was the customer bill of rights. You should read this:

http://www.sunrocket.com/about_us/bill_of_rights.html

If only every company operated this way.

Anyway - we've had it for a few weeks now, the voice quality is excellent, the customer service seems great, it was extremely easy to set up, and the price and features are amazing.

Traditional phone service is obsolete. This is the future.

Cool.
